"I realize that talking shit about strippers might make you feel better about yourself, or justify to you why you think you are a better person/girlfriend/mother/whatever.  We can hear you, and it's dehumanizing.  Believe it or not, comments like, 'That one's so ugly,' 'Ugh, my boobs are so much nicer,' 'At least I don’t have (xyz flaw),' etc. do hurt girls.  This is my body.  I do hear nasty remarks that are made by women, even when you think you're being quiet.  It's hurtful in a deeply personal way.  I am not a flawless body… I'm a human being."

  1. These comments are why alot of the women I used to work with refused to do private shows for couples, or would try to avoid areas where there were male clients with their girlfriends/wives.

I think alot of those hurtful comments can be followed up with a "and I'm so insecure in my relationship and myself that I'm envious of the fact my boyfriend/husband likes to look at you".

  2. Yep.

In general, for both clients and their wives / girlfriends / whatever, a nice "don't treat me like I'm fucking stupid" policy would work quite fantastically.

  3. Women do this? Wow. I've never worked as a stripper, but me and my husband had a joint stag/hen night in a strip club and I made it clear to all my friends I invited that if they wouldn't enjoy it they shouldn't come to that part of the night (there was other stuff going on earlier in the evening). As a result, the only women who came were the bisexual ones and we were all far too busy enjoying the naked ladies to even think of being bitchy. I don't understand why an insecure straight woman would torture herself like that - if seeing beautiful naked women paying attention to your partner is going to bother you, then don't go with him to a strip club or if it REALLY bothers you then date someone who doesn't go to strip clubs!

I am glad that in the types of sex work I do (webcam and prostitution) if someone pisses me off I can throw them out and blacklist them and give them a piece of my mind. Having worked in retail I don't think I could ever go back to that kind of 'the customer is always right' type environment and have to actually be NICE to dickheads :P

Comment policy for Feminisnt: I do not publish blatant insults and trolling. You must use a name/handle other than anonymous or asdf because I am tired of giving space to detractors who are too lazy to pick a fake handle and too scared to use a real one. I no longer publish comments bitching at me about how feminism is the greatest thing ever. And I may not publish your comment if I have already addressed that specific issue several times already. Read my responses to other comments before asking a new question. Finally, if your comment hinges on an obvious logical fallacy, I might not publish that, either, except to make fun of you. All new commentors have their first comment held for moderation. Commenting on my blog and taking up space on my server is a privilege, not a right.
